BABOK Chapter 2: Business Analysis Key Concepts

In January 2020, the Vancouver Chapter will start a new series of study sessions of the BABOK® Guide v3. The purpose of these sessions is to help BAs understand and achieve International Institute of Business Analysis® (IIBA®) certifications. At these sessions, participants will review and discuss key concepts, knowledge and skills, and share experiences in business analysis practices. Monthly sessions will continue through the year.

The sessions are based on A Guide to the Business Analysis Body of Knowledge® (BABOK® Guide) version 3.

Chapter 1 introduces the BABOK®; Guide and explains what business analysis is and who a business analyst is.
Chapter 2 includes information that provides a foundation for all other content, concepts, and ideas within the BABOK®; Guide.

This session will be facilitated by Shawn Leslie BCs, CBAP. Shawn has 7 years of experience in Algorithmic Lottery Game Development in the Gambling Industry before he moved on from Mathematical Statistics towards Eliciting Requirements from users, accountants, and managers at Doctors of BC, a professional organization which represents all of the Specialists and Family Doctors practicing in British Columbia. It was at Doctors of BC that Shawn was able to get the hours required to write and pass for the CBAP Exam on December 4th, 2018.

Materials and Pre-work

Participants should bring a copy of the BABOK®; Guide version 3, available online at no cost for IIBA members (IIBA Website). Non-members can purchase a PDF, ePub or Kindle version at the IIBA Website or a printed copy on Amazon. To facilitate an effective study, we ask participants to read Chapters 1 & 2 in advance and send any questions to development@vancouver.iiba.org.
