Through stories and examples this illustrated talk will explore the work of data scientists, how they add value and the skills that make them successful. 
 
You will learn why this discipline has recently become critically important to many organizations. While data scientists are able to find answers to complex real-world business questions, their value can be significantly enhanced when working in partnership with other professionals, including business analysts. You will learn what to expect when working with a data scientist and how best to make your projects involving data science deliver benefits to your organization.
 
The presentation will end with a short demonstration of some visual programming and data visualization tools used by data scientists, but that are also used by Business Analysts for advanced business analytics.  

About the Speaker : Derek Belyea is the founder of Analytix Studio. Working as a management consultant, business analyst and IT project manager he has assisted clients in many industries including real estate, financial services, commercial aviation, manufacturing, distribution and higher education. Derek holds an MBA in Finance and Marketing from UBC and has also earned the CPA, CMC and PMP designations.
