IIBA Certification Study Group Session 9

BABOK Chapter 9 & 11: Underlying Competencies & Perspectives

This is the ninth study session of 2021. The purpose of these sessions is to help BAs understand and achieve International Institute of Business Analysis™ (IIBA®) certifications. At these sessions, participants will review and discuss key concepts, knowledge, and skills, and share experiences in business analysis practices. 9 monthly sessions will continue until November 2021. You do not have to have attended the previous sessions to attend this one.

The sessions are based on A Guide to the Business Analysis Body of Knowledge® (BABOK® Guide) version 3.

Chapter 9 “provides a description of the behaviours, characteristics, knowledge, and personal qualities that support the practice of business analysis.” (BABOK® Guide)

Chapter 11 “Perspectives are used within business analysis work to provide focus to tasks and techniques specific to the context of the initiative. Most initiatives are likely to engage one or more perspectives.” (BABOK® Guide)

This session will be facilitated by Shawn Leslie, CBAP, CSM and Nina Koo, CBAP.

Shawn was most recently a Technical Project Lead at Doctors of BC. As a Project Lead at Doctors of BC, Shawn analyzed, implemented, strategized, and guided several years of the Doctors of BC 's annual membership dues campaigns. Most recently in 2019, Shawn lead a project for changing the relationship with the Doctor of BC 's parent organization, the Canadian Medical Association. Shawn obtained his undergrad degree in Computer Science (Honors) at the University of Manitoba and has recently supplemented that degree with a certificate of Business Analysis at Simon Fraser University in 2017 and in writing and passing the CBAP® in December 2018.

Nina has more than 15 years of practical business analysis experience working across a range of sectors such as telecommunication, professional services, manufacturing, and pharmaceutical. She is a Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP). She is passionate about constant learning and personal development. She is an active member of the local community including volunteering with the IIBA Vancouver Chapter as Manager of Professional Development.
